Created for the 2007 Travelling Gallery Exhibition 'Access All Areas' a group
show of international artists whose work embodies an interactive element.
NearHear 3 was a screen based work connecting the listener with sounds gathered
from the non urban landscape. Untitled short sounds were heard by clicking on coloured
discs on the computer screen.
I recorded the land as sound, not only the usual or expected sounds but also the hidden,
dark dramatic and surprising sounds that evidence both natural and human activity within the landscape.
NearHear2 was a further collection of sounds from this project which was created for
the Threshold entrance space at Perth Concert Hall. This work is now in the permanent
collection at Threshold.
In November 2007 works from this project were installed in a settlement of
Edo period agricultural buildings at Abiko in Japan as part of the Abiko Open
Air Art residency and exhibition. |
